Our History

The Lawrence County Senior Citizens Club first met January 1975 with 102 members. Initially had their meetings at different area buildings then landed at rotary park in June of 1975. A new building was commissioned to be built for the specific use of being the Senior Center and they moved in November 1978 with the open house on January 1979. The original members were: Wylie Willis – President, Sherrill Knott – Vice President, Effie Price – Treasurer, Lela Roberson – Reporter, Ruby Hayes - C.E.T.A. worker and PJ Summerhill – Chaplin

Currently the Lawrence County Senior Citizens Club has 300 members, and we serve as a gateway to the nation’s aging network—connecting older adults to vital community services that can help them stay healthy and independent.
